Aquarama Mama

Have I told you how much I love the color aqua? If it's turquoise/teal/robin's egg/blueish greenish, well then, sign me up, especially if it has anything to do with the kitchen. Here are some recent additions to my growing collection. The cake cover and plastic wastebasket my mom found at an estate sale, and the faded coffee canister I picked up at a junk store in Alabama. It's hard to see from the photo, but there's a stamped design of an old fashioned coffee grinder on the front. I use it to store my coffee beans, of all things.

Another gift from Mama was the plastic utensil drawer organizer and the Pyrex bowl. The cup I found at the thrift store recently. The 50s and 60s were full of fabulous contradictions like Colonial/Early American themes and images rendered in sherbet colors paired with lots of slick, modern Formica and chrome. It was an exuberant, anything goes era for design, which is one of the reasons it's my decorating style of choice.

I found these world travel themed glasses at Goodwill for 50 cents a piece. Such far flung locales as Paris, Holland, Britain and Jamaica are represented. They'll coordinate nicely with my other aqua and gold bar ware.

A couple of days after my mom gave me the cutlery tray, I was flipping through my treasured copy of the 1956 Better Homes and Gardens Decorating Book when I found this clever idea in the "Dollarsavers" section. Hmmm...

I also *love* this bedside table made from a wire laundry drying frame and want one real, real bad. I wonder if I can hunt up something similar at an estate sale? I don't recall seeing a modern equivalent of one of these, but even if one exists, it's probably nowhere near as classy.

I was too excited to figure out HOW to put up links! I'm still such an amateur (sp?). I have a basket of things to photograph and post - I've got to get back to blogging.
